Only food can make me forget about watches. And, paradoxically, watches are often the only thing that can keep my arms away from hearty meals. Bonhams invited me to lunch to show off some highlights of the Fine Wristwatches Sale at their New Bond Street salesroom. Jonathan Darracott, Global Head of Watches at Bonhams London Watch, was among a select group. The new Bonhams restaurant Emilia served delicious Italian food inspired from Emilia Romagna. The highlights of the sale were scattered amongst the wine glasses at the table. It featured great watches from a variety of brands, including some exclusive pieces from Patek Philippe or Rolex.replica rolex watches These Fine Wristwatches sales are now firmly on the annual watch calendar and have very much become a stop-off for the nomadic watch collector/dealer/enthusiast clan who move from time zone to time zone attending auctions and fairs. I will now excuse myself and show you my selections from the auction.
Lot 108 - Cartier Baignoire Maxi
The most sought-after watches in recent years have been early Cartier watches. The appearance of rare and fascinating examples on the wrists of horological tastemakers like Eric Ku and John Goldberger has helped to make this a reality. What is the most sought-after? The Cartier London pieces from 1966 to the mid-70s. Lot 108 is in Bonhams. Baignoire,hublot big bang red devil replica a large-sized watch made of 18k gold, was my favorite. The curve of the case practically hugged my arm when it was on. This watch is hand-made and beautiful. It even has the original folding clasp. Cartier London pieces were created under the direction of Jacques Cartier. His initials are on the London-hallmarked watch cases just as they are on the present lot. It's timeless to see the blued-steel hands and Roman numerals "exploding" in their unique style. This London watch is a perfect fit for the setting.
Lot 51 - Heuer Skipper
Bonhams is making the Heuer Skipper a summer favorite. It will be interesting to see how the model performs after last year's PS81k results. With its ocean-blue dial and faded-orange accents, it exudes summer elegance.Rolex Replica Watches These watches are very rare, with only 20 known examples. It's also a great size at 36mm. Although it's not in the same condition as last year's offering, I am confident that this old salt will continue to hammer on next week.
Lot 43 - Patek Phillipe 5101P
My dear friend David Duggan and I had a great lunch at Wiltons when I tried the 5101P for the first time. It wasn't just any 5101P. This piece was unique and commissioned by Eric Clapton, or Eric Patrick Clapton, as the initials "EPC” on the caseback meant. The 5101 is positioned on the wrist in a manner similar to the Cartier Baignoire. The stepped sides add to the watch’s remarkable presence. Lot 43 features one of my favorite dial combinations, salmon with applied Breguet numbers. The manual wind movement has a 10-day power reserve and an indicator at 12 o'clock. This piece is quite simple considering its two significant features. All original paperwork and boxes are included. Bidders should not be too slow when bidding... Sorry, I'll get your coat.
